Mumbai thrash Chennai to claim maiden IPL crown Mumbai Indians crushed Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs to lift their maiden Indian Premier League crown and give the iconic Sachin Tendulkar - who announced his retirement from the league - a fitting farewell gift in front of a capacity crowd at the Eden Gardens.

About IPL 2013

The 2013 Indian Premier League season, abbreviated as IPL 6 or the IPL 2013, will be the sixth season of the Indian Premier League, established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. IPL Committee has announced the dates of IPL 6. The tournament schedule has been announced and it is set to begin on Wednesday April 3, 2013 and the final match of IPL 2013 will be played on Sunday May 26, 2013 with total of 76 matches including 72 pool, 2 qualifiers, 1 eliminator and 1 final match.

The opening and closing ceremonies, and the opening and final matches will be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This is because of the Kolkata Knight Riders' tournament winning performance in IPL 5. This will be a change most IPL fans would've wanted with Chennai's dominance over the last few years in the IPL's schedule making the tournament slightly monotonous.

The decision to resume Indo-Pak bilateral cricketing ties is also likely to clear the decks for top Pakistan cricketers to again be a part of auctions in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Also from 6th season the domestic players will be put into IPL auction.

With BCCI terminating Deccan Chargers, Sun Tv's Sunrisers Hyderabad has been included in IPL 6 for 2013 season making it a total of nine teams that will be participating this year. It was confirmed on 25 October 2012 that Sun TV Network won the bid at 85.05 crore per year.
